3G.co.uk is reporting on an Ovum survey that revealed that 20 percent of UK subscribers actually search for mobile content on their mobile phones. That’s not too surprising, but the corresponding figure that the mobile industry thinks that 89 percent of users do search the internet on mobile phones is — I’m not sure who they asked in the industry, but you’d have to be drinking a lot of Kool-aid to think usage is that high at the moment.
The survey found that 2 percent of users search on a daily basis, and surfers tend to download premium content — the most commonly searched for content is ringtones (54 percent) followed by full track downloads (47 percent). 23 percent said they didn’t know how to use the mobile search engine and 19 percent said it had never occured to them to do so, but 98 percent said they knew where to find it.
On the industry side, 50 percent said that “increased downloads” was the best qualifier of whether a search service was successful, followed by return visits (31 percent).
