ISB Tries Radio Via LAN; What’s Holding Back Internet Radio?

Internet radio has been around in India for a while, but hasn’t really caught on, probably because of bandwidth issues and lack of marketing. It seems that the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad has running a LAN based radio on campus, reports Business Standard. It serves as an alternate information source, like for companies coming for placement to the campus.
The story also mentions Geodesic’s Mundu Radio, which I installed and tried a few days ago. There are quite a few preloaded radio stations, but I didn’t use it for long because of poor GPRS speed, and I just couldn’t figure out how to turn the volume down on my Nokia 3230. I’m quite bullish on Internet radio, since most radio channels in India have more or less similar Bollywood fare; there are niche markets which terrestrial radio channels can’t cater to due to the cost involved. The question is – who decides the content mix online- the user or the broadcaster?
