EA has made amongst its smallest acquisitions: it has bought a very young online karaoke site called SingShot, in an attempt to add social networking and interactive elements into its online gaming efforts. The SF-based SingShot was founded by former Rhapsody-creators last year, and received $1 million in funding from Transcosmos Investments.
Upon completion of the acquisition, SingShot CEO Ranah Edelin and CTO Niranjan Nagar will enter EA in the roles of VPs. The five person SingShot team will join the EA Sims Division, and EA hopes to apply the technology to several different community projects within, it said.
