Mobile Key To Future Gaming — Iplay

Mobile game developer I-play’s CEO David Gosen has said that mobile games are the key to the future of the gaming industry, reports GamesIndustry. Speaking at the Casual Connect Conference Gosen said that mobile game sales are expected to double those of console titles within two years, and “its reach and multi-functionality positions mobile as the number one mass market entertainment device of the future, rendering console as a platform for a niche audience”. That may be true, but it’s also true that the average console title sells for a lot more than double the price of the average mobile game title, and that niche audiences are usually more profitable per member than mass markets. There’s a lot of “debate” at the moment comparing the mobile games market with the console games market, which is largely irrelevant. Mobile games can be a successful market irrespective of how it compares to console games, and the console gaming market won’t fail just because the mobile gaming market gets bigger in some metric.
