Verizon officially launches EV-DO Rev. A (even though we’ve used it unofficially!)

I missed the Verizon press release from this morning, but Matt Miller did pick it up over at The Mobile Gadgeteer. The release indicates that EV-DO Rev. A is officially rolled out "in Mass., including Boston and its suburbs, the Richmond and Hampton Roads, Va. areas, Chicago and its suburbs and including Gary, Ind., Salt Lake City and other cities in Utah, as well as in Florida throughout the state’s entire existing area of Verizon Wireless’ wireless broadband network."

Official launch or not, James is loving it in Houston. Aside from the faster download speeds, percentage-wise, the bigger gain appears to be on the upload side. In my opinion, the most ‘disruptive’ mobile technology I’ve seen in the past three years is arguably 3G wireless technology. I could give up my smartphone and even my UMPC (I’d be hard-pressed), but last on my list would be giving up the ability to have speedy access to the ‘Internets’ while on the road.
