Sony Ericsson’s “Made in India” phones are expected to hit the market in June 2007, reports The Hindu. Currently Sony Ericsson phones are imported from Malaysia. The company has entered into a production arrangement with electronic manufacturing services (EMS) companies like Flextronics and Foxconn to make handsets in India. Both the companies are setting up production bases in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.
The company would initially make basic colour phones and mid-level music-enabled phones for the domestic market, and they are likely to priced attractively. They would be making GSM phones in India.
