Industry Moves: A&E Digital SVP; Paramount CTO; UMG Digital; Hearst-Argyle TV; IGA Worldwide

– At A&E Television Networks, Paul Jelinek has been appointed to the newly created position of SVP, Digital Media, A&E Television Networks. Jelinek will have oversight of AETN’s consumer websites including AETV.com, History.com and Biography.com. Jelinek will also be responsible for the creation and execution of AETN’s new business development strategy for digital media. Most recently, Jelinek served as VP, Digital Media Products, MTV Networks and Nickelodeon Kids and Family Group.
— Alan Bell has been named EVP & CTO, Paramount Pictures, part of Viacom. In this newly created position, Bell will be responsible for Paramount’s worldwide technology strategy and advise the studio on all related technical, business, legal and regulatory matters. In addition, he will “explore, evaluate and set requirements for the development of new technologies related to the creation and distribution of digital media, including the implementation of DRM and anti-piracy technologies” the company said. Bell will report to Rob Moore, President, Marketing, Distribution and Home Entertainment. Bell comes to Paramount from Warner Bros., where he served as EVP, Advanced Technology.
— Amanda Marks, who runs Universal Music Group’s new-media and technologies division eLabs, has been upped to EVP and GM of digital distribution. Marks will manage UMG’s digital business and will look to increase the company’s revenue through directing product development, coordinating marketing activities, and building the company’s relationships with key digital service providers and retailers.
— Hearst-Argyle Television’s growing concentration on digital media, the TV group announced Monday that Terry Mackin, EVP, will turn his attention to digital media full-time.
— In game advertising firm IGA Worldwide has named Kenneth Ripley was named EVP of global advertising sales. He previously served as VP of sales for Discovery Communications and national sales manager for Discovery’s emerging network group.
