The NY Times (reg) has a piece on what people with lower end phones — those they get free or practically free from carriers on a plan — can do with their mobile phones apart from talk. Depending on the handset they can do many of the things that smartphone owners can do, although with an obvious drop in usability. For example, It’s possible to check e-mail with a smaller screen and an numerical keypad rather than a full qwerty keyboard, but it’s a lot more frustrating.
