Not sure how far reaching effect this will have, but at least M-Qube now has deeper pockets being part of Verisign: A class action lawsuit was filed this week against M-Qube, alleging that the company knowingly billed certain cellphone users for content they never signed up for. It was filed by Chicago-based law firm Blim & Edelson in Massachusetts District Court.
The suit addresses so-called “dirty” cellphone numbers, which are recycled numbers passed on to new customers with previously purchased services still attached to the number. Companies like M-Qube continue to bill the number without seeing if the account has changed hands, the suit claims. The suit is seeking damages of over $5 million.
