New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg has unveiled a plan to let people send in photos to the 911 service to allow people to send images of crimes in progress and whatnot, reports RCRWireless. Less spectacularly but probably more useful in the long run, the system will also be launched for 311, New York City’s number for government information and non-emergency services, which will “allow New Yorkers to step forward and document non-emergency, quality-of-life concerns, holding city agencies accountable for correcting them quickly and efficiently”.
A company called PowerPhone launched a similar service in August last year, but doesn’t seem to be involved in this.
