Did Windows Live OneCare 1.5 soft-launch?

I’ve been beta testing v1.5 of OneCare for several months on various Vista configurations as v1 is not supported on Vista. I also purchased a OneCare subscription last April for my XP machines. Based on the Windows Live OneCare blog, version 1.5 availability is expected in time for the big Vista launch in 11 days, 11 hours, 52 minutes and 29 seconds (approximately), but I’m thinking that it soft-launched for two reasons. Remember that I got my new Q1P yesterday, so one of the first things I did was hit up the OneCare site.

When I did that yesterday, I got a message along the lines of: the site is down for maintenance but will be available soon, try again later. I tried several times, but got the same message, which raised an eyebrow and indicated something was up. I just tried again on Samantha, the Q1p, and was able to access the site as well as download OneCare on XP. Since I got the screenshot above from Samantha, I’d say that the Windows Live OneCare team is ahead of schedule as I clearly have version 1.5 running on XP.

OneCare is fantastic! I’ve tried many combinations of software firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware software. OneCare is simply, simple. And effective. The price is perfect: $49.95 for three PCs. BTW, x32 Vista is currently supported, but x64 is not. I highly recommend trying the generous 90 free trial. Cheers!

Yup, confirmed v1.5 here as well. Installed and working fine on Vista. I have removed it again though as I’m not going to be using it.

Thanks for the tip Kevin, up till now I havent been able to purchase OneCare since I live in the UK. I did try an early trial and was impressed especially by the fact that for the price I can use it on both my machines. Following your lead I checked back today and it looks like OneCare has had its official release here so I may well be making a purchase, thanks again for the info.
