Indian telecom regulator seems to be cracking the whip. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has issued a notification directing telcos to put their accounts online for public scrutiny. By doing this, consumers will be able to inspect the costs, revenues and profits of mobile operators under different heads of services including basic, roaming and other value-added services, reports The Economic Times. A regulation was passed in 2004 which directed the telcos to separate accounts, indicating various components of cost, revenue and profit under different heads of services. Now these accounts will be open for public scrutiny as they will be put up online.
Now as an informed consumer you can analyse the costs of providing a service and compare it with the price of the service. If it doesn’t, file a complaint with TRAI. Or how about a PIL?
