Tata To Bring Virgin Mobile To India And Acquire Sri Lankan Telco Suntel?

Speculations rife around the Tata group: The Virgin Group could be tie-ing up with Tata Teleservices to launch Virgin Mobile in April 2007 in India, reports the Times of India. Apparenlty, Virgin can be positioned as a youth brand, and enter India as a franchisee of Tata Teleservices.
Tata owned VSNL is apparently also in talks to acquire Sri Lankan operator Suntel, reports the Economic Times. Suntel is a JV between Overseas Telecom AB of Sweden, Townsend Limited of Hong Kong, the National Development Bank, Metrocorp (Pvt) Ltd and the International Finance Corporation.
No comments from spokespersons from the Tata Group on either development. Meanwhile, the VSNL stock is up 6.76 percent to Rs.465.15
