Kamla Bhatt does an interesting interview with Rajesh Sawhney, President of Reliance Entertainment, which brings to light a synergy between two of the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani group businesses – Reliance Communication and Reliance Entertainment. Sawhney says that Reliance Communications is well poised to become the dominant player as an integrated telecom service because of its synergy with Reliance Entertainment. In the next 10 years, Reliance Communications will be creating 30-50% of its value through entertainment services, which will be a differntiating factor between telcos. For this, Reliance Entertainment has invested in Gaming (Zapak) and FM Radio (BIG FM), and acquired Adlabs for Movie production and distribution.
Content is king and distribution is god, he says, and I guess the ADA Group intends to take on both roles. Often quoting China as an example Sawhney also puts forth a case for online gaming as opposed to console gaming (particularly MMOGs) because of the cost of the console. Only one upcoming launch mentioned – Zapak will launch a chess game with two young chess players as brand ambassadors. Nothing on online radio and music on demand.
