Cisco Hints At more Consumer Digital Media M&A Deals

Cisco has been on a PR offensive about its digital video plans, including the recent appointment of a top exec in charge of video division (Dan Scheinman), as well as CEO John Chambers’ keynote at CES yesterday. At CES, Chambers hinted that the company will acquire more consumer-focused companies as part of a broad push into digital home. “We’ve already made three acquisitions” of consumer-focused companies, Chambers said, including that of Linksys and Scientific Atlanta. “You’ll see four, five and six coming soon,” Chambers said. Chambers tried to ease concerns of traditional consumer electronics vendors and content providers that Cisco would be a threat to their businesses. He called Cisco “Switzerland” and said the company will remain technology-agnostic and will use industry standards to build its new products.
