Saregama Plans Entertainment Portal Saregama.com

Saregama India Ltd, an RPG Enterprises company, plans to make movies, music and other content available online at an entertainment portal, reports Indiantelevision.com. They own 300,000 tracks, and the challenge, according to RPG-Enterprises Entertainment Sector President and CEO Subroto Chattopadhyay is in making content locally relevant. He adds that the portal will probably be called Saregama.com. 15 percent of Saregama’s revenues is from digital content, and they’re also looking at subscription and ad-revenue models for Saregama. More here.
At present, Saregama.com looks more like a corporate website than an online retailer. Saragama retails music and home video content at HamaraCD.com, so what will become of that?
Update:
Indiantelevision.com has an interview with Subroto Chattopadhyay. Saregama intends to play the aggregators role and remain platform agnostic. They’re not looking to acquire any content companies since they feel valuations are high, and are instead focusing on creating new content. There is also no plan to merge their overseas subsidiaries PG Global Music and Saregama Plc. HamaraCD.com will become a B2C portal.
