Canadian Actors To Go On Strike On Digital Media Compensation

Updated: Some updated info on the last minute negotiations here, but it seems the Monday strike will go on.
The negotiations between Canadian actors and North American producers have gone nowhere, and the ACTRA, Canada’s actors union will ask all its members to go on strike over digital media compensation. The deadline for a deal is midnight tonight.
The producers late Friday put their latest proposals to compensate Canadian performers for video product sold online or other new digital platforms on the table. On Saturday afternoon, ACTRA insisted the producers’ new media residuals package offered too little detail or monetary reward for its membership…also, it says that U.S. producers were offering a “low-ball deal” on new media residuals to set a precedent for negotiations with the Screen Actors Guild further down the road.
