Yahoo India In Talks With Jagran.com For Local Language Content?

Yahoo India may strike a local content and marketing partnership with Jagran.com, the Hindi portal from the largest selling Hindi newspaper company Dainik Jagran group, ContentSutra has learned. Yahoo is in talks with Jagran for the deal, and according to sources, the deal may be worth Rs 8 crore a year in advertising revenues.
When contacted, Arti Vedantam, a Yahoo India spokesperson, denied that any such deal is in the offing. However, independent sources confirmed that Yahoo is in talks with several players for local language content, and Jagran is one of them.
Our take is it seems to be a good deal for Jagran.com which currently rakes in about Rs 1 to 2 crore a year. Also internet sales is not Jagran’s forte as of now. A tie-up with Yahoo can change that.
Rafat adds: Yahoo is leaning more and more towards such joint ventures outside of U.S. Last month, in New Zealand, Yahoo tied up with Telecom New Zealand, the biggest telco in the country for a joint venture site. Prior to that, in Australia, Yahoo tied up with media company Seven to launch Yahoo7.
