Salmi's MTVN Digital Team Finally Set; Lehman Will Head New Games and Interactive Media Unit

The official word isn’t due until Friday but you’re reading it here first … Two months after accepting the job of running the Viacom unit’s digital strategy, Mika Salmi, president of MTVN Global Digital Media, has his executive team in place:
Denmark West, EVP-Operations, Global Digital Media: Will help oversee overall digital operations and coordinate digital marketing.
Nicholas Lehman, EVP and GM, MTVN Games and Interactive Media Group: MTVN digital vet Lehman heads a new unit responsible for global strategy and operations for all of MTVN’s hardcore games media businesses, including Xfire and GameTrailers, as well as FLUX and other interactive/social media efforts such as FLUX.
Kenny Miller, EVP and Creative Director: Will drive digital platform development, build and operate cross-brand digital apps.
Nick Rockwell, SVP & CTO, Digital Media Technology: Just what it says — Rockwell will oversee global digital technical operations and application development.
Greg Clayman, SVP, MTVN Mobile Media: Recently announced. Clayman manages mobile partnerships and content distribution and will support the teams at the individual MTVN brands in developing a wide portfolio of mobile content and apps.
Jason Witt, SVP-Online Distribution and Partnerships, Global Digital Media: Responsible for increasing the company’s online reach, viewership, and direct revenues.

The team’s charge is to “help guide MTVN’s brands in digital distribution expansion, product development and technical support, and cross-brand programming.” The team reports to Salmi but all are expected to work closely with the digital execs at the various brands and business units. It’s a division of labor that other companies are trying as well: a modified federal-state approach of sorts that requires a strong commitment from above — in this case, MTVN Chairman Judy McGrath — to guard against power plays and keep the fiefdom fallout to a minimum. To give you an idea of how much digital responsibility lies elsewhere here are a few of the execs they’ll be working with: Courtney Holt, EVP, Digital Music and Media, MTVN Music, Logo and Films Group; Stephen Youngwood, EVP, Nickelodeon and MTVN Kids & Family Group; Erik Flannigan, SVP-Digital Media, MTVN Entertainment Group; and Gideon Bierer, SVP, Digital Media, MTV Networks International. The team is also expected to collaborate with Nada Stirratt, EVP-Digital Advertising. Clayman and Witt will report to Nicole Browning, Nicole Browning, president, MTVN Affiliate Sales and Marketing while Rockwell will report to Joe Simon, CIO of Viacom and MTVN. See how carefully this has calibrated?
— For the record, MTVN has 32 broadband sites and 139 web sites; its sites and affiliated companies had more than 36 million unique visitors last November.
