Security researcher Collin Mulliner has released a proof-of-concept code which exploits vulnerabilities in MMS implementations in mobile phones running versions of Windows Mobile, according to The Register. An attack involve a long MMS which could crash the phone depositing hostile code, but the code needs to know the correct memory slot where the MMS processing code is executing, which isn’t easy so the most likely effect is to simply crash the phone. It’s more of a nuisance than a virus, but it was apparently brought to the attention of manufacturers six months ago with little result. Mobile phones are still a fair way away from being vulnerable to viruses and worms, but they’re getting there.
