The South Western Railway is experimenting with selling platform tickets via SMS, reports DNA. Customers have to SMS ‘PFT’ to 3939 (for BSNL) or 6469 (for Airtel). They’ll receive a five digit pin which they have to enter to receive a platform ticket via a vending machine at the station. The railways will collect Rs.4 from the operator, though the story doesn’t mention how much it will cost the user.
Well, this could be a precursor to other such services being launched, though I don’t see this being much of a success. How many people in India actually buy platform tickets, anyway?
