There is a plan to connect all colleges affiliated to Pune University by end 2007, to enable academic exchange and smoother governance, reports the Indian Express. The Triple Connectivity Project – with video, voice and data – plans to enable smoother application and admission procedures, and allow for virtual classrooms. Vice-Chancellor Narendra Jadhav says that they’re looking for broadband partners.
Now, this is interesting: they’re developing content, and considering ways of enabling universities to prepare electronic content as well. Other ideas being floated around are recording lectures and allowing students to access them, on-demand. Overall, the project is expected to cost Rs.4 crore.
All well intentioned, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the project exceeds the projected cost and the estimated time, and is low on usability. Also, is the content going to be charged, or will be free for viewing, like MIT’s Open Courseware?
