Amazon.com's Investment In Wikia: $10 Million; Developing Wiki-Based Search Engine

We have mentioned this funding before, but the amount came out today through SEC filings, picked up by PEHub: Amazon was the sole investor in Wikia’s second round, and the amount is $10 million. Wikia is the for-profit community wiki company from Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, who is chairman.
Wikia previously had raised $4 million in first round funding from Bessemer Venture Partners, Omidyar Network and individual investors like Marc Andreessen, Josh Kopelman, Joichi Ito, Mitch Kapor and Ron Conway.
Part of this money will presumably be used to launch the Wiki-based search engine the company is planning to launch…The project, called Wikiasari for now, was announced in December. The Wikia search engine would allow users to see how the results were generated and modify those rankings using their own knowledge of the Internet. More details in this NYT story here.
