Swedish facial recognition and visual search startup Polar Rose has received $5.1 million in first round of funding. The round was led by Nordic Venture Partners. The company combines facial recognition and 3D imaging software, along with user-input, to provide a method for image searches. A beta of the software will be available for public use, beginning in February of next year…it is available as both a browser plug-in and an API (Application Programming Interface) for integration into websites. The company’s service is aimed at search engine providers, dating sites, social networks, photo-sharing sites, and news publishers.
