A couple of publishing societies have raised the royalty rates for mobile music, resulting in carriers simply removing the songs from their decks. In Indonesia and the Phillipines (both pretty small markets) the organizations representing the publishers of international songs have asked the carriers to pay royalties twice as high as that for local artists. As a result, the two major carriers in the Philippines, Globe and Smart Telecom, have simply decided to remove most of the international repertoire from their decks. On the plus side, this could give a boost to the local artists.
