Two industry moves at big media companies which will have impact in the mobile content side of things as well:
— Jean-Briac (J.B.) Perrette has been promoted to president, digital distribution, NBCU, from SVP-new media distribution and CFO, NBC Universal Cable. Perrette’s new responsibilities are wide: distribution of television content across multiple digital platforms, including interactive television, wireless, on-demand and IPTV and he will be the “primary lead” for NBCU content discussions with portals, wireless carriers, emerging digital companies, and nontraditional customers. Perrette joined NBC in 2000, playing leading roles in the acquisition of Bravo and the integration of the NBC and Vivendi Universal cable nets.
— CBS’s interactive/digital arm has made a senior appointment, and more proof that it is very serious on doing lots of Silicon Valley acquisitions: Michael Marquez has been named VP of strategy and corporate development. Prior to this Marquez was director of corporate development for Yahoo. CBS Interactive is the new division of CBS, which morphed out of the previous division CBS Digital after Larry Kramer left, and Quincy Smith joined as the head. Marquez will work with Smith to help set the division’s overall strategy, as well as with Chief Development Officer Joseph Ianniello, to initiate investments and acquisitions. He will be based in San Francisco. At Yahoo, his focus was on acquisitions and investments, including Oddpost, Verdisoft, del.icio.us, Bix and Jumpcut. Before going to Yahoo, he also served as a banker at Robertson Stephens.
