ABI Research reckons that the Beijing Olympics will drive interest in mobile video in China, resulting in a user base of 32 million by 2008. Of these, 27 percent will use broadcast technology and 73 percent will use unicast streaming technology, with some people using both.
The release mentions that, SARFT, the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, announced two handset-related standards this year — DAB and T-DMB. However, it fails to mention the CMMB standard China seems keen on, which is a pretty big oversight.
Off the mainland, ABI Research forecasts approximately 715,000 mobile video users in Hong Kong in 2008, of which 99% will be streaming users. In Taiwan, ABI Research forecasts that there will be over 1.5 million mobile video users in 2008, with 97% receiving content via streaming. (press release)
