Video Reviews Site ExpoTV Gets $6 Million First Round

ExpoTV, an NYC-based consumer-generated video product reviews site, has received $6 million in first round of funding. The round was led by Masthead Venture Partners and Prism VentureWorks, and included the participation of existing investors. The company says it has a library of about 20,000 user-generated video product reviews, and syndicates to AOL, Yahoo, Google, YouTube, and selected e-commerce websites (which of course just means they upload their videos there as well). It is also on VOD with cable operators such as Comcast, Time Warner, Charter, Verizon FiOS TV, and others.

One of the VCs, David Biesel, who invested in ExpoTV, writes about why they invested on his blog: The opportunity…is for purpose-driven content which benefits both advertisers and consumers alike. ExpoTV capitalizes on this need by facilitating, aggregating, and distributing newly available video-based advertorial content (where the content itself is advertising)…This product content, in turn, directly facilitates online e-commerce transactions, making it much more valuable than other non-product editorial or user-generated content.”
