MTV Takes Wraps Off Its Mobile Content Subscription Service

[by Peggy Anne Salz] MTV has launched Bananas, a cross- carrier, direct-to-consumer subscription offering that features exclusive content from MTV, MTV2 and mtvU (including material from shows such as Laguna Beach, The Real World and Two-A-Days). MTV said there are two “tiers of service”, each delivering programming content as well as ringtones from major record labels. The release provides a detailed description of the mobile content on offer, but doesn’t mention pricing.

The decision to launch the service is no doubt a result of MTV
