The early retirement of Verizon COO Larry Babbio has seen some promotions within the company, primarily within Verizon Wireless.
Current Verizon Wireless chief Denny Strigl will move to the COO position of Verizon Group on January 1st, where he will have responsibility for the operations of all of Verizon’s network-based businesses and report to Verizon Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ivan Seidenberg. He’ll also handle some consumer efforts, including the FiOS development intended to allow Verizon to offer video and compete with cable companies. This is seen as recognition of the recent success of Verizon Wireless.
To replace Strigl as president and CEO of Verizon Wireless will be Lowell McAdam, currently EVP and COO at the mobile carrier. Separately, Verizon named John Stratton, currently Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Verizon Wireless, to the newly created position of Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for the marketing and brand initiatives of all Verizon’s business units.
