SKY TV Launches Multi-Channel Service With Vodafone NZ

Pay TV provider SKY has linked up with Vodafone in New Zealand, marking another milestone step in its on-going campaign to expand its reach and deliver a mix of TV and made-for-mobile content to Vodafone users with 3G handsets. The new mobile service will be available from early 2007 and features a bundle of channels including SKY Sports, SKY News, SKY Movies, CNN, MTV, E!, Cartoon Network, and Discovery. Some channels will be broadcast as live, while others will be edited for mobile. Users will pay NZ$2.50 (IS$1.74) per week to access the package, and some live sports events, including European soccer, will be on a pay-per-view basis for a premium not yet set. As of end-June 2006, Vodafone New Zealand claimed to have a customer base of 2.1 million and a 55 percent share of the country’s mobile market. press release
