Following the restructuring that was announced at AOL earlier today, NYT gets an interview with Randy Falco, the new CEO and Ron Grant, the COO. Some good backstory about how he came into AOL, and how Jeff Bewkes, Time Warner’s president and prior CEO Jon Miller never saw eye to eye.
Also, Falco emphasized that he is in this for the long term, and rumors and reports about TW dressing up AOL for sale this year (to possibly Microsoft) is highly unlikely. “I’m not in here for a short ride. I’m not a one-off guy…I can’t imagine that Time Warner will want to sell or get out of AOL…It is an integral part of Time Warner.”
With digital media the current obsession of all media executives, Falco did not see his lack of direct management of a Web business as an impediment. Bewkes also said he did not look specifically for a so-called traditional media executive for AOL.
