BSNL Launches Ring Back Tones For The First Time, In Chennai Circle

The state-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has launched ringback tones for the first time, and the service has been licked off in its Chennai circle. This will be currently available for all its post-paid mobile subscribers on the short code 567. The services for the pre-paid subscribers will be launched very soon.
BSNL has partnered with OnMobile for providing ring back tone services for the South zone – which covers four circles of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. The service is branded as BSNL tunes (couldn’t they find a better name?). The services are charged at Rs 20 a month for subscription and Rs 12 per song selection.
Interestingly, private telcos like Airtel launched ringback tones as early as July 2004.
