Qualcomm has hired Len Lauer, the former COO of Sprint Nextel who left the company recently. Lauer will serve as group president overseeing Qualcomm’s wireless business services, government technologies and its mobile television divisions (meaning MediaFlo).
Also, Sanjay Jha has been promoted as Qualcomm’s COO, filling a position left vacant since the last change of guard at the mobile phone chip company. More in the WSJ story here.
Updated: Forbes.com has an interview with Jha. He talk about MediaFlo: “We felt that if we did not develop this technology, it would not have been deployed. Our purpose was to make sure we took care of the system end-to-end, and of course that meant deploying it as well as having [wireless] spectrum [licenses]. We’ve been very public that we think we will spin this business out at the appropriate time. We don’t see this as a long term thing for us.”
