Freeman’s Clickstar Adds Sony, Universal, WB Movies; Launch This Week

Morgan Freeman-based online movie service Clickstar, which I have criticized for indulging in too many vaporware announcements, has signed on Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Universal Studios Home Entertainment and Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group, ahead of its launch late this week on Cstar.com. These studios will provide several hundred studio titles ranging from classic films to new day-and-date DVD releases. Also, at launch, it is set to debut the movie “10 Items or Less” as a download on the site on Friday, just two weeks after the film debuted in theaters.
James Ackerman, CEO of ClickStar, told HR that the company was in various stages of discussion with the other major studios and that 15 other content deals have been made with independent distributors of film entertainment and documentary companies.
Sean Carey, executive VP digital services and distribution at Sony Pictures Entertainment said that the service will be provided an amount of content on par with what other players in the digital download space, such as Movielink and CinemaNow, received.
