Next Generation spoke with David Karraker of Sony, and he said that they were overall pleased with NPD numbers released charting the sales of the Playstation 3 throughout November. According to the NPD, Sony moved 197,000 units in the month of November in the U.S., which is slightly short of the original projected figure of 400,000.
Even though the estimates came up comically short, Karraker is still confident that they’ll be able to ship out 1 million units by December 31, 2006. “While initial day-one launch shipment goals weren’t achievable due to early manufacturing issues, those problems have been resolved and we do remain focused on having one million PS3s in the pipeline by December 31, 2006,” Karraker said in his talk with Next Generation. Even with the manufacturing problems solved, 800,000 units is quite a ways to go in less than 3 weeks. Good luck, David, but I don’t think it’s going to work.
