Dhoom2, it seems is being broadcast illegally on Google Video, here. The quality of the video is awful, and probably not worth downloading (though Google has that option). The video has already received 42,965 views and was uploaded on the 29th of Nov 2006. Apparently the video has been put up by a portal that allows users to “watch live cricket n DVD print movies Live TV channels n Lots More”.
Another Bollywood film called Tom Dick and Harry is available on Google Video in two parts. The quality of the print is just as bad, and was put up on Google Video by a site that allows its users to “Find your lifepartner”, “chat online, Live messenger, Greeting cards, Poetry, Photo Album Live pixel, winks & much more”. It was put up on 4th November 2006, and has received 10,202 views so far.
These sites seem to be using Google Videos for promoting themselves by illegally broadcasting Bollywood movies online. Google allows users to flag objectionable content, but there’s no telling how soon they’ll remove it from their servers. By then, the movie would have already been downloaded…another lawsuit in the offing for Google in India? And are there any more Bollywood movies up on Google Video?
When contacted, Vishal Gondal, the Chairman of the CII Mobile VAS taskforce said that the CII is taking up this issue and are working on sorting this matter out.
