Blue Dragon Pushes Xbox 360 Sales in Japan

One thing’s for certain, American game consoles, especially the XBox, have never done well in Japan. That is, until possibly now. Imagine what would happen if Elvis, John Lennon and a younger, pre-bizarre Michael Jackson were to make an album together. That’s the musical equivalent of what Blue Dragon is for Japanese RPG fans. Blue Dragon is designed by Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame, and features art from Akira Toriyama, who designed the art for Dragon Quest and Dragon Ball Z, and music from Nobuo Uematsu, who is responsible for quite a bit of Final Fantasy’s music. On top of all that, throw in a couple of the designers for Chrono Trigger and you have an all-star cast.

In September of this year, Microsoft announced pre-orders for a bundle that includes a core 360 and Blue Dragon for $260. The bundle sold out of all 100,000 units. The more shocking sight, though, was Japanese people standing in line for an XBox 360 title. Maybe the tide has turned for Microsoft in Japan. If not, though, this may be the last chance they get.
