TravelGuru And MTV Launch Backpack Holidays; Site Still Not Fully Developed

MTV has tied up with Travelguru to launch MTV Backpack Holidays. These serve adventure travel needs of the youth in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. In the offing are activities targeting the youth, including rock climbing, skiing and kayaking. Prices vary from Rs.800 for a day trip to Rs.10,000 for longer trips. [via release at Agencyfaqs]
I just took a look around the website, and it doesn’t match up to what the press release claims. There is only one two-day package, that too only for Mumbai. There is no price mentioned. No contact details. There’s a photoblog link that doesn’t work. Really – they should know better than to announce the launch without having fully developed products and services. Also, this is more of a quick solution to travel needs, and I don’t think it can really compete with forums and communities of travel junkies spending the entire week planning a daytrip for the weekend. Would be advisable for the TravelGuru-MTV venture to better offer a variety of choices. I think they’re going to use MTV to plug the packages to those who aren’t familiar with other options. Also, OkTataByeBye, Webchutney’s site was supposed to evolve into a travel community portal for/with MakeMyTrip. What ever happened to that?
