Socialight Expands LBS Service To Texters

Socialight has upgraded its location-tagged information service, the most significant move being to extend it most mobile phone users. A social networking service isn’t much good if it’s only available to a tiny subset of the population. Socialight aims to complement other social networking services by adding location information — for example, users can import Flickr photo GeoRSS feeds and share their images at the exact places they took them, while users of MySpace and Blogger can embed a Socialight “widget” to liven up their pages with maps of recent Sticky Notes.
The upgraded version reaches more people by using different platforms such as SMS and Java, and now has comments, ratings and discussion around the place-based Sticky Notes (from phone or web), which may help lessen the impact of places writing their own promotional notes.
Socialight is also targeting the corporate crowd, allowing content owners to create opt-in channels. “Content providers including WCities and Movie Locations Guide are already programming fun, entertaining and informative Socialight channels”, reads the press release.
