Rediff Launches Ringtone Search

Rediff has launched ‘Rediff Ringtone Search’ which allows users to search for ringtones online, and download them on their mobile phones. According to the release, most of the 60,000 ringtones are Bollywood. I just tried the search, and it seems to work fine. Downloading options include via SMS to Rediff’s short code 7333 and GPRS to Rediff’s mobile portal. Apparently, only for monophonic ringtones, there’s an additional option for sending the ringtone to a user, though it requires authentication. Why is this only for Monophonic tones? Also, why isn’t there an option for gifting a ringtone? I guess gifting of content will also receive a boost once micro-payment options online increase. Rediff also has a personality test that recommends the ringtone that suits a user best…it seems to be more of a mode of data collection for profiling users. And no, I don’t think Khalbali, Yamma Yamma, Chaiya Chaiya and Dum are songs that suit me best…no way!
