July Systems Gets Patent For Mobile P2P DRM Technology

Bangalore based July Systems, mobile content-retailing systems provider has been issued a patent from the U.S. Patents and Trademarks Office for rights managed peer-to-peer (p2p) distribution of mobile content. Apparently, their technology allows for p2p distribution of content while simultaneously managing the digital rights with every transfer. It seems to me that the transferred application/game will be locked, and the user will have to buy the code to run the application. I’m not sure of how effective this can be in India, where content is transferred, for a price, by shopkeepers on the purchase of a handset. Still, if the content is compelling enough for users to pay for it, this just might work. The idea here is to make each user into a distributor.
