Rajshri’s Rights To Films Division Content Questioned; Rajjat Barjatya, MD, Rajshri Media Clarifies

The issue of the sale of telecom rights of historical speeches to Rajshri Media was raised in the Indian Parliament, reports DNA. I&B Minister P.R. Dasmunshi said that the Films Division was not empowered to do the sale, and hence the cheque for Rs.2.7 Lakh that they received was not encashed. Does that mean that the sale has not been completed? I think the Films Division content should be available in the public domain since it has been funded with taxpayers money.
Update:
I just spoke to Rajjat Barjatya, MD, Rajshri Media. He says:
We have a legally binding, valid agreement with the Government of India, signed by the Chief Producer of the Films Division on the 9th of January 2006. It gives us a two year licence to distribute content via online and telecom networks. We sent a pay order in January which was acknowledged, after which they gave us the documentaries. We’ve received no communication regarding this issue. The Ministry has been very supportive so far, so this comes as a surprise. We’re a company of high principles and for us, our reputation is above all else.
