So at least some progress: BBC is planning to launch an international version of its video NewsPlayer in the new year which will carry ads from April, reports Guardian. From January visitors to BBCNews.com will be able to view reports from the BBC World international news channel via the NewsPlayer.
It will carry 15-second “pre-roll” ads to international users…Users will be given the option to view programming without ads at lower quality narrowband speeds, or with ads at broadband quality speed.
The controversy about other kinds of banner ads on the international website still remains.
