Here is an interesting move from Zee Network’s cable division. Its group company Wire & Wireless India Ltd (WWIL) plans to acquire local cable operators to get control over the last mile connectivity, reports Indiantelevision.com. WWIL, which is in cable business, is reportedly offering cable operators a valuation of Rs 2,000-3,000 per subscriber. WWIL will be a 51 per cent partner, while the remaining 49 per cent will be with the cable operators.
The company thinks this is the way to expand its network. WWIL has already acquired control of a local Mumbai operator 5 Star. It’s said to be in talks with other operators. It remains to be seen what could be the response of competitors like Incablenet and Hathway Cable?
