This China-entry talks for MySpace have been going on for a while, and it has been reported before that the push is being headed by News Corp. Chairman Rupert Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng. WSJ has some more info: it is in talks with International Data Group’s Chinese venture arm and former China Netcom Group CEO Edward Tian for the venture. Deng is also likely to join the board of MySpace China, her first official job at the media conglomerate since she married Murdoch in 1999.
No decision has been made yet, and the service could face stiff competition and regulatory hurdles in China. Meanwhile, IDG’s Chinese investment arm already has a joint venture with News Corp. operating a Chinese portal called Chinabytes.com
