Yahoo Launches Group Texting Site

TechCrunch has picked up on a new (and as yet unpromoted) service from Yahoo… a group texting service called Mixd.
“Mixd allows users to set up groups and text or share photos within those groups. Texts and photos can be managed online as well as on a mobile phone…Text recipients can reply to all, “whisper” by replying to just one other person, or “mute” by turning off the message chain.” TechCrunch wasn’t impressed with the usability, which is probably why Yahoo isn’t pushing the site very much.
Update: Yahoo PR has sent a short note on this: “Mixd is a new a social-mobile experiment developed by Yahoo’s Advanced Products Group (APG is a small team at Yahoo that develops and incubates innovative new product ideas) and Mobile team with a focus on youth communities. Mixd is a group mobile messaging and media sharing tool for people who want to organize and remember get-togethers…Currently, Yahoo is experimenting with this service idea as a means of gathering feedback to refine and evolve the service before a potential official launch in the future.”
