A day after the first news leaked on this in UK, ITV has officially confirmed that BBC chairman Michael Grade will become its executive chairman early next year, succeeding Sir Peter Burt, in effect being the head of UK’s biggest commercial broadcaster. The current interim CEO John Cresswell will become COO and finance director.
Meanwhile Grade also said that he does not expect to appoint a CEO at the broadcaster inside his first two years there, while any influence he might have will not be seen till late 2007. ITV had said it expected his position as executive chairman would last for up to three years and that within that time he and the board expected to appoint a CEO.
