GigaOm notes that Canadian mobile messaging company OZ Communication‘s second round of funding, which went through in September, raised a whopping $34 million. The round was “led by Canadian institutional fund manager, Caisse de depot et placement du Quebec”, and brings the company’s total funding to around $61 million.
“That is considerable funding for a company that sells mobile messaging handset and server software…The company has a decent business model, though: help carriers provide mobile IM and email to customers.”
GlobeAndMail: OZ partners and customers include Bell Canada and Telus Corp. in Canada and T-Mobile USA Inc., Sprint Nextel Corp. and Cingular Wireless LLC in the U.S. Mail providers it has partnered with include AOL Online Inc., Microsoft Corp.’s MSN and Yahoo Inc.
