The Controller of Patents, Government of India has granted a patent for a mobile marketing solution to Airvoice Infocom Erode Private Ltd, reports The Hindu Business Line. The solution is opt-in and allows callers to listen to an advertisement for 10-30 seconds prior to calling a number, and the subscribers will be paid for the duration of that ad. The solution, called HopAd, will be launched in early 2007 and Airvoice intends to invest over Rs. 1 crore on creating an ad database with segmented data and purchase patterns, for better targeting. More details on the product and plans here.
I like it that the product is op-in and users can choose whether or not to listen to an ad when making a call – but what prevents them from abusing the system? Apparently, they will get paid even for missed calls. Would advertisers like to target users who want to be paid to listen to ads?
